GAUGES AND SLITTERS:

GOOD condition requires that all the marking spurs or cutters be present (although not neccessarily sharpended) and that the mortising spur adjusting screw (that moves one of the spurs) actually works.  An improper thumbscrew downgrades the tool to GOOD MINUS.

Two major criteria of value are the amount of brass and the type of wood.  The preferred woods are, in ascending order:  beech, maple, apple, mahogany, boxwood, rosewood, and ebony.
